My name is Krista Monahan and I am an artist who specializes in painting, drawing, tattooing and permanent makeup. I was born and raised in the beautiful St. Augustine, Florida with a loving family who were always, and continue to be, incredibly supportive of my dream to become a professional artist. I have been creating art from the moment that my hands could hold a pencil. I love the service aspect of all art forms and I respect the fact that anyone can appreciate something beautiful that is handcrafted by someone who truly loves what they do. I feel very lucky to have grown up in a city that is so vibrant with creativity, especially in the arts.
At age 14 I fell in love with the art of tattooing. For me, as soon as I saw that tattoos could be truly a fine art, I was hooked. I knew that I wanted to become a tattoo artists, but I decided early on that I wanted to finish school and not pass up any opportunity with my education. After attending Pedro Menendez High School I headed to the Florida Community College in Jacksonville. This was a great experience and I loved the diversity of all of the students in my art classes. I believe that my time in the community college really gave me a great insight to how open-minded art should be, with no room for egos. After a year and a half there, I decided to move to my mom’s hometown in Illinois where I was accepted to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. It was there that I receive my Bachelors in Fine Arts degree with a focus in painting and print media. It was also in Chicago that I became an apprentice at Fifth Sun Graphix, and learned to tattoo. After 4 years in the Windy City, I decided to move back to my hometown, St. Augustine, and open a tattoo shop.
At The Lovely Pearl Tattoo Studio I will provide a unique experience for anyone interested in the art of tattooing by raising the standard quality of tattoos and adding a fine art perspective on every client’s desired piece. I want to stand out in the tattoo community as a custom shop that delivers well thought out, beautiful tattoos, and that also contributes to St. Augustine’s growing art scene.
